The Metro

Paris metro is an interesting spectacle. The whole city is criss-crossed by 14 metro and 5 RER lines, with stations located in almost every nook and corner of the city. Wherever in Paris you may be, you are

never far from a Metro station. And this system is so vast that a whole second world lives and thrives underneath the earth in Paris. I find it really strange that such a big city has its foundation on innumerable cavities in the ground in which heavy and noisy trains keep running all the time nonstop! I took some time to get used to this vast network; it was too overwhelming at first, but the time lag seems to be
paying off. Chatelet station is incredibly huge being at the intersection of 5 metro and 4 RER lines!! Even after so many days of travel, I can’t help myself from getting stuck at least once or twice at Chatelet during a line change.

Many people complain that the system is not efficient, the layout is confusing, and the trains are too noisy; but I think that given the age of this network, any such complaint can easily be forfeited.

Moreover, it’s being upgraded every day, and the trains are mostly punctual and sufficiently comfortable. Metro is the lifeline of Paris!!

This was Paris from the eyes of a beginner. As the time passes, this beginner can expect to gain a deeper understanding of this amazing city and bring it forth; after all, we have still not talked much about Parisians!
